Reis Magos Fort, Goa

Bardez Taluka

One of the oldest Portuguese forts in Goa, Reis Magos was originally constructed in 1551 as a turret, reconstructed in 1707 and restored in 2008. Its original avatar served to guard the estuary of the Mandovi river. It is situated in the Bardez taluka of North Goa, near Panjim.

The fort of Reis Magos is constructed from red laterite rock. It has steep slopes, white walls, cylindrical turrets, thirty-three cannons and a fresh water spring inside the fort. In the early 1900s, it was converted to a prison for several decades. Since the fort is situated on a hill, it offers stunning views of the Mandovi river. Once you have explored the fort, you can visit the nearby Reis Magos church, where the feast of the three wise men is celebrated every year on January 6.

The fort is open from 9.30 am – 5.00 pm and closed on Mondays, with an affordable entry fee.
